Splints

A splint is an appliance worn in the upper or lower arch that helps alleviate grinding/clenching habits. They can be made from a soft or hard material and require an impression of your teeth.

What are the causes of teeth grinding?

  • Stress or anxiety (the most common cause)

  • Snoring or obstructive sleep apnoea

  • Certain medications or recreational drugs


Snore Appliance

Snoring is the sound that occurs when air flows past relaxed tissues in your throat, causing the tissues to vibrate as you breathe. Most people snore at some point but for some it can be a chronic condition which can be a nuisance for partners.

A snore appliance is designed to bring your lower jaw, soft palate and tongue forward to prevent obstruction of the airways.

What are the causes of snoring?

  • Anatomy of your mouth - thick soft palate or long uvula can narrow your airway

  • Sleeping on your back

  • Alcohol consumption

  • Sleep deprivation

  • Nasal problems

  • Obstructive sleep apnoea
